Things to do

brilliant beaches

The wonderful Jurassic Coast is 20 minutes away with its great selection of local beaches - sandy ones, big empty pebble ones and fossil hunting ones. Even in the peak of summer, there are beaches on this stretch of coast with few people on them.

fabulous food and foraging

This part of Devon and neighbouring bits of Dorset and Somerset are home to a rapidly growing foodie scene. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall with his River Cottage a couple of miles away was an early pioneer. Many others have followed. We recommend farm shops, vineyards, seafood stalls and other places selling the best of the local produce for those who want to forage and come back to cook. Plus great places to eat out - from fine dining to beach shacks.

world beating walks

You’ll find Ordinance Survey maps in the house along with a suggestions for walks from the front door and further afield - plus ideas of pubs where you can stop along the way. The South West Coast path is a particular favourite with options for gentle strolls or more challenging hikes - and stunning views all the way.

garden and games

The farmhouse is set in more than an acre of grounds - you’ll find a swingset, trampoline, treehouse, table tennis table and badminton set. There are comfy rattan sofas and cushions to sprawl on, a Weber gas BBQ, outdoor dining tables and firepit. Plus a selection of games and jigsaws for guests for rainy days.

days out

Plenty of local attractions for kids – apart from all the beaches, there’s Crealy Theme Park, Pecorama, Wildwood Escot, Axe Valley Wildlife Park. Plus visit National Trust properties like Killerton and Branscombe. Or hire bikes locally to explore the country lanes and local pubs.

local towns

Nearby Lyme Regis is fun all year round – quirky shops, cafes, mini golf etc. Bridport is also great to wander round – including for antiques and art. Local markets in Axminster on Thursdays, Bridport on Saturdays. Explore coastal villages like Beer and Eype.
